So you’ve just spent what seems like an absolute fortune on a new pair of absolutely amazingly sexy platform shoes or boots for pole dancing and you want to protect them from scrapes and scratches and getting trashed within a couple of weeks. Protect Pole Dancing Shoes with a pair of DIY shoe protectors.
In recent years platform shoe protectors have become very popular and you can easily buy a pair to match your outfit or heels online.
But whilst there is a huge selection available to buy online, you might want to save a few pounds and make your own. There are countless ways to do this. Extremely easy methods are available that cost you next to nothing in terms of hard cash, time and labour to intricate designs which require you to use a sewing machine and buy fabric if you don’t happen to have any at home from other projects.
DIY Methods to Protect Pole Dancing Shoes / Boots
We’ve tried and tested 3 diy methods that can be used to protect your pole dancing shoes. We’ve listed them in order of simplicity. Our preference is method 2 – which will you choose?
The first method re-purposes a pair of socks, you could also use a thick pair of tights or leggings. If you use this method make sure
Next tried and tested making some simple tubes out of lycra fabric that you pull over the shoe/boots lastly, we are looking at a technique where lycra and sturdy vinyl are used. Whilst the last method seems quite complicated, for the novice at least, we think this may make a pair which will last the longest, but they need to be made for each pair of shoes/boots you own and you can’t really swap them between footwear. This is the reason we have selected the second method as our DIY method of choice.
1. Easiest and Cheapest Method – Socks
This is a very easy method to implement and personally, it’s one of my favourites. It will cost you nothing other than a pair of sports socks. This is a great method to use if you happen to forget your protectors or if you want to protect your shoes whilst in storage.
Simply grab a pair of short ankle socks. You can either use the whole sock or cut the toe off – this exposes the sole so that you can walk on them.
Make sure that you pull the socks up entirely over the sole so that there are no folded, lumpy, bumpy areas so that you can walk safely.
To protect the tips of the shoe, fold down the sock so that the socks sit just above the edge of the shoes and sit under your toes, but so that your toes can’t feel the socks. We recommend that you cut the toe out so that you don’t slip when walking. We will be making a video shortly showing you how to do this.
2. Simple to Sew Lycra Tube Protectors
This is another really easy method you can use. You just need some lycra or scuba fabric which is really cheap to buy and the skills or a sewing machine to stitch the fabric.
When you have made them simply slide this fabric sleeve over the platform of your favourite shoes and start dancing! The fabric will fit snugly over your platform cushioning your shoes and protecting them from damage as you perform your floor routines, the Lycra / Scuba fabric provides slide and style as you clack your way across the floor!
You can invest in a couple of different colours or patterns and make reversible ones. That way you can protect your pole dancing shoes and have a couple of other looks all at the same time.
Once you have the skills you could even make yourself some matching pole wear 🙂
The great thing is, is that there is so much beautiful material out there – you can buy just enough for a pair of heels, or get a bigger piece so you can make a few pairs.
All you have to do is make a tube that is tight enough to stay put on your shoe but that you can pull up over your shoe. Simply grab some fabric, sew it together and pull them on.

3. Hard Wearing Protectors
You can protect your Pleasers and other pole shoes with these protective heel covers. They are simple to make and an effective way to protect pole dancing shoes.
The supplies you will need to make your protectors home are some fabric – lycra/scuba, wide elastic and sturdy vinyl.
This actually looks a little out of our current skill set, but looking forward to giving it a go. In the meantime here is someone’s brilliant demo of how to protect pole dancing shoes including PLeasers and other brands.
We found these demos on youtube
4. Taping
It’s not conventional but you can use kinesiology tape to tape the sides and toe of the shoe. Simply cut bits of tape and apply them over the shoe. Tapes come in a range of colours so you can decorate your shoes however you like. You can change the tape whenever you fancy or when the tape gets damaged.
The only negative about this method is that when removed the tape may leave glue residue on the surface of the shoe. So if you want to wear your shoes in the future – this method is probably best avoided.
5. Buy Some Ready Made Protectors
If you don’t have the time or the inclination to make your own at home then there are plenty available to buy online. We have a post on our top Pleaser pole dancing shoe protectors that you can buy online. Why not take a look if you are thinking about splashing some cash and buying some?
